The last one was cheaper by about $30 but noisy and constantly had the fan getting stuck in fabric/clothes/whatever I had on my lap -- my husband had to fix the broken fans at least 5 times in as many weeks. Using the Zalman has ensured that I can place it on any surface (lap or table top) and it is secure and my laptop is cool. I was a little hesitant about this light after reading reviews about the switch but I was getting the M-Edge cover and really wanted the convenience of having the appropriate light. It fits the cover seamlessly. The switch on the light is a little wonky but it seems to be pretty stable once you learn to use it. You have to wiggle it into place but once you get it there, it stays - it's not that hard to find the right place.
