The year after, in 1980, he set a national record when he ran 29.00,3. Won the 1988 London Marathon (2:10.20). Finished 19th in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Marathon, and 22nd in the 1988 Olympic marathon. He also set a national record on the 5000m (13.27,76).
